Now Offering Temporary Hoisting Licenses!
Want to rent a skid steer for a back yard project but don’t have the necessary hoisting license? No Problem!
The Massachusetts Department of Public Safety is now offering temporary hoisting licenses for individuals interested in renting hoisting equipment! For a small fee and peace of mind, you can now safely and effectively operate heavy equipment.
What equipment does an operator need to carry a hoisting license in order to operate? Any Hoisting Machinery that has the minimum capability of hoisting the load higher than 10 feet or that has the capability of lifting loads greater than 500 pounds or if the capacity of the bucket exceeds 1/4 cubic yard capacity. (Basically all Mini Skid Steers, Skid Steers, Excavators, Backhoes etc.)
What type of equipment will a “Temporary Hoisting License” allow me to operate? A Temporary permit allows the operator to operate hoisting equipment not exceeding a gross weight of 8,000 lbs. This license costs $20 and is valid for 14 consecutive days. No more than one permit is allowed in a 45 day span.
Are there any exemptions to the Hoisting License Laws? Yes. The State of MA provides an exemption for Hoisting Machinery used exclusively for agricultural purposes.
